For your favorite commercial, how much product (cars, bags of chips, etc.) will the company in question have to sell to pay for their add? In other words, how much does a super bowl add cost and how much does the manufacturer make off of each widget they sell? How many people see a super bowl add? Do you think it's worth it to advertise during the super bowl? Suport your answer with numbers and explain your assumptions.
My favorite Super Bowl commercial was advertising Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides. A 30-second ad during the Super Bowl costs about $3 million. Concerning a movie advertisement, by the time the movie is shown in the theaters for a while, a large profit would have been made. At least 300 million people see a super bowl ad because most of the population of the US watch the super bowl. Despite the high cost, the sheer amount of viewers during the super bowl would balance out the cost of the ad.
Josh, you're a self proclaimed "math freak". You're not telling me anything with this post unless you "run the numbers". Make some assumptions on costs/payoffs and do some calculations.
